Montana

Love.

We made a point to have lunch at another Roadfood-recommended joint. This one, Matt's Place, is a tiny counter only establishment in Butte. It's been around since 1931 and supposedly looks exactly the same. I tried the suggested item...a pork chop sandwich. (Although I was intrigued by the nutburger.) Add fries and onion rings and milkshakes...scrumptious.

Love.

A little further north, we came upon an awesome find.

Really cool glimpse of (wealthy) ranch life in the 1800's.

Cowboy diggs...

Cowboy coffee is made with no filter. There are two tricks to it according to this resident cowgirl, or cook/cookie....first is to use water that has only been brought to a boil once, then to pour a cup of cold water into the pot after it has brewed.

Tasted great, and no grounds.

The chuckwagon cleverly made large trail drives (which required men, who required large amounts of food) possible. Like any kitchen, they became not only the place for meals, but also the center of social activity. The cook, having full control over the food, had the power. Treat him poorly, and the morning biscuits may be a little salty...

Idaho is next, but I'd rather not leave Montana.
