We must part with the coast today. Rt 1 winds and twists up and down mountains through redwood groves, hugging the cliffs overlooking the Pacific surf. Breathtaking, but slow going. Time to say our good-byes for now if we want to cross the Golden Gate Bridge today!

Can I just say, that in all our travels, the steepest grade I recall is 8%. Hold on!!! (And this was supposed to be faster!)

This steep, twisty road spit us out right in this cute little town appropriately named Boonville.

How nice that the tasting room was open! After the white-knuckled 20 miles my dad just expertly navigated, I offered to drive and have him to taste away.

I got flutters again as we approached the Golden Gate Bride. It was foggy and drizzly all day, but cleared up just as we got close. Yours truly was driving the rig. San Francisco in the sunshine through the orange beams...sigh.

Must come back when time allows for trolly rides and exploring the nooks and crannies of the city!

Alcatraz emits an eeriness even from afar. Sam, Chloe and I recently read Al Capone Shines My Shoes/Does My Shirts. It's always cool when something comes to life off the page.

On our way to Half Moon Bay!
